Something in the air has us feeling nostalgic. Get it? I’m sincerely sorry. Anyway, the vinyl reissue of the film score by French duo Air for the 1999 Sofia Copolla-directed drama The Virgin Suicides lands at No. 1, just ahead of a man who has been selling vinyl records for longer than just about anyone. Taylor’s 17th studio album debuts in the second slot, followed by a surprise jump up to third by Franz Ferdinand & Sparks collaboration FFS and Thee Oh Sees’ frontman John Dwyer’s synth-driven solo record as Damaged Bug (Thee Oh Sees, meanwhile, are holding tight at No. 8).
Usual suspects Muse (last week’s chart topper), Jamie xx (who reigned the week prior) and Florence+The Machine come in at five, six and seven, respectively, while Ryan Adams rounds out the top ten in the final spot.
Troublingly, Mumford & Sons wasn’t vanquished after all. They steam back into the ninth slot after a one-week absence, illustrating that when this unholy beast has a head chopped off, two more grow back in its place. Hail Hydra!
