There’s no one right way to create a collage. The best ones, though, tell a story, be it one of nostalgic memories, a lifetime of travels or a new imagined reality. Oklahoma City artist Marissa Raglin accomplishes a little bit of each of that with her pieces. Just recently latching onto collage after studying art at Oklahoma Baptist University, she utilizes old magazines and illustrated books plucked from thrift stores and estate sales to assemble little vignettes that play out like surreal little lullabies: a little sweet, a little cautionary, and thoroughly inventive.
Raglin was just selected as one of the featured artists at Momentum OKC 2015, the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition-presented exhibition spotlighting young, emerging artists in the state of Oklahoma each year (the piece above is what got her in). This year’s event takes place Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7 at the Farmer’s Public Market. Friday night features music by John Calvin Abney, The Daddyo’s and Scott A.F. Saturday showcases Depth & Current and Bowlsey. Free gallery hours are planned in the days to follow, with an artist chat and closing reception scheduled for Monday, March 9.
