Unlike anything you’ll see from Disney’s perpetual superhero grinder, Tim Miller’s Deadpool seeks to rectify the crimes of so many of the previous R-rated Marvel films. As Mario Lopez quickly discovered, the fourth-wall-breaking anti-hero has no intention of keeping this outing family friendly.
The movie follows Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), a Special Forces agent, as he slowly fades in his bout with terminal cancer, but a chance meeting with an abrasive scientist compels the desperate funnyman to undergo a series of experiments aimed at regeneration. Unfortunately, the experiment costs him the life he once had as it grossly disfigures Wade. With his overwhelming humor as a defense mechanism, the patient-turned-mercenary seeks revenge on the fateful researcher.
Test footage leaked last summer of Ryan Reynolds voicing the assassin as he gruesomely decimated an SUV full of would-be criminals. That aforementioned footage was, of course, used and adapted into the current trailer for the film. More in line with Fox’s X-Men universe, expect several cameos — including one caught in the trailer of the Russian Heavy Tank — to find their way into the film.
Deadpool‘s marketing campaign has been nothing short of unique, as the character has made multiple appearances on several entertainment outlets and even prefaced his own trailer with a teaser of its own (included below).
Deadpool is slated for release on February 12, 2016.
