After what feels like approximately 500 days of rain, the storms have cleared just long enough to welcome a pair of Austin indie-rock vets into the state for a pair of shows in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
It’s hard to beat Spoon at much of anything, but Quiet Company did just that when they stole the crown from the ATX favorite (who plays this Sunday at Diamond Ballroom) as Best Rock Band at the Austin Music Awards earlier this year, something no Oklahoma band has been able to pull off over our native Meryl Streep — The Flaming Lips — since, like, ever. Between a lauded, energetic live show and a seasoned brand of indie that channels wavers between soft-spoken vulnerability and audacious, hook-driven rock ‘n’ roll, it’s not hard to see why Quiet Company is being championed as the Texas capitol’s next big thing in a string of many big things. Garnering press from NPR and New York Times and compared to the likes of Death Cab For Cutie and Weezer, the band released its fifth studio album, Transgressor, earlier this year.
Fellow Austin product The Rocketboys are no slouches, either. A decade strong into its career, the band has put out two studio albums and several EPs, including this year’s Left|Right. They’ve toured the country in support of bands like The Mowgli’s, Kopecky Family Band, Relient K and The Almost and landed songs on the likes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Real World.
Check the bands out below. Tickets are available at the door for each show.
