What a day for ’90s nostalgics, eh? One minute, Diamond Ballroom tells us 311 is coming. And the next, Cain’s Ballroom gives us two equally reputable (albeit very different) acts who also dominated radio waves way back when.
First up is Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s E. 1999 Eternal Tour, which makes its way through Cain’s on Friday, May 22. Known for their rapid-fire delivery and gangstafied lyricism, the hip-hop paragons were instrumental in mainstream rap music’s mid-’90s heyday, breaking through with Eazy-E-approved single “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” and culminating with the massive hip-hop balladry of “The Crossroads.” Advance tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, two days after the first of the month.
Ben Folds, meanwhile, brings his suburban brand of alt-pop to Tulsa on Sunday, June 14. The iconic singer-songwriter and North Carolina native broke through in 1997 with “Brick,” released as Ben Folds Five. The band broke up in 2000 and Folds went solo, releasing the aptly titled Rockin’ the Suburbs shortly thereafter. Tickets for the Folds gig also go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
