While Other Lives, Parker Millsap, John Fullbright, and Broncho might get a little more of the glory, Tulsa native Ben Rector has probably erected (Puns! Yay!) the most quietly successful, non-country music career of just about anyone not named The Flaming Lips in the past decade or so. The singer-songwriter has sold over a million singles and hundreds of thousands of albums and toured with the likes of Needtobreathe, building a sizable following of fans of his subtly spiritual, coyly clever and politely presented take on indie folk.
Now, Rector is back with a new album and full U.S. tour in support of it. Brand New — his latest record and not a tribute a certain Long Island emo band — drops Friday, Aug. 28. He’ll head out on the road over the following month, headlining well-respected (and sizable) rooms like the House of Blues in Chicago, Irving Plaza in New York, and Ryman Auditorium in Nashville (the city Rector now calls home). Most importantly for us, though, is the hometown boys’ performance on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa.
You can pre-order Rector’s new album now and buy tickets for his Tulsa show starting at 10 a.m. this Friday, July 24.
