As we count down the days until Saturday’s big ol’ party at Native Sound Stage, Oxford Karma’s Endless Summer (tickets available here), we’ll also be profiling each of the artists performing and, most importantly, why they need to be seen. First up: The Hitt Boyz.

Hometown: Oklahoma City
Members: Adam Thornbrugh, Will Ogletree, Brandon Schreiner, Nick Morgan

Why you need to see them: “Math rock” is often the preferred term hurled at The Hitt Boyz’s capricious, off-kilter compositions. But the genre’s relatively narrow scope can also imply, perhaps unfairly, a cerebral or overly methodical approach to the craft. Such is not the case with the songs written by these four dudes; for every change in time signature there’s an equally bewildering melodic oomph, whether it manifests in dueling guitar licks or the towering, momentous “ooohs” sung in unison. And while their recorded material adequately captures the band’s boyish enthusiasm, it’s even more infectious in person. Oh, and they’re really good at guitar.
What other people are saying: “The Hitt Boyz, a band of former ACM@UCO students thriving in Oklahoma City’s underground music scene, is a “math rock/post-rock/rock rock” band with a love of bizarre chords, unusual time signatures and really excellent song titles like ‘Falconhawk’ and ‘Respect Party.’” – Becky Carman (The Oklahoman, March 13, 2015)
