What are your neighbors listening to? Oxford Karma decided to survey Oklahoma mainstay Guestroom Records about its best-selling records each week to figure out just that. Here’s what was flying off the shelves/out of the crates this week:
1. Tame Impala – Currents
2. Jason Isbell – Something More Than Free
3. Samantha Crain – Under Branch & Thorn & Tree
4. Rush – Moving Pictures
5. Kasey Chambers – Bittersweet
6. Leon Bridges – Coming Home
7. Death Grips – Ex Military
8. Ratatat – Magnifique
9. Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell – Sing Into My Mouth
10. John Moreland – High on Tulsa Heat
You’d be excused for wondering if this week’s chart is a rerun of last week’s. It basically is. Without the threat of any new high-profile releases last Friday (new Lamb of God, anyone?), Tame Impala and Jason Isbell continue their stranglehold of the top two spots. Samantha Crain bumps up a notch to No. 3, replacing Leon Bridges who drifts back down to No. 6. Rush enters into the fold at No. 4 with the reissue of its classic Moving Pictures. Australian country singer Kasey Chambers is one of the few new names, rounding out the top five. Her latest album, Bittersweet, was just released stateside despite being out in her home country for almost a full year.
Death Grips rattle their way back into the frame with Ex Military, while Ratatat eases down to No. 8 with their new, “Cream on Chrome”-boasting record, Magnifique. The collaborative album between Sam Beam’s Iron & Wine and Band of Horses frontman Ben Bridwell just makes it in at No. 9, while Tulsa’s own John Moreland reenters the list in the final slot, perhaps boosted by a recent profile in the Wall Street Journal.
