What are your neighbors listening to? Oxford Karma decided to survey Oklahoma mainstay Guestroom Records about its best-selling records each week to figure out just that. Here’s what was flying off the shelves/out of the crates this week:
1. Ryan Adams – Burn in the Night
2. Brand New – Deja Entendu
3. Kendrick Lamar – good kid, m.A.A.d city
4. Run The Jewels – Run the Jewels II
5. Kacey Musgraves – Pageant Material
6. Leon Bridges – Coming Home
7. John Calvin Abney – Better Luck
8. Rachel Grimes – The Clearing
9. Refused – Freedom
10. Joy Williams – Venus
New Music Tuesday became New Music Friday last week to the chagrin of some (i.e. me), with Friday, July 10 representing the first global music release day. Due to a relatively lackluster slate of new releases last week, it’s too early to tell how that bump will affect our weekly charts, but with Tame Impala dropping this Friday, we should have our answer pretty quickly.
For this week, Ryan Adams jumps all the way to the top spot after last week spent at No. 7 with his new 7-inch Burn in the Night. Emo stalwarts Brand New — relevant as ever, having sold out Diamond Ballroom in a day’s time this spring — land at No. 2 with the seminal Deja Entendu. Kendrick Lamar maintains a presence in the top five, though switching from his most recent To Pimp a Butterfly to modern hip-hop classic good kid, m.A.A.d city, while Run the Jewels (who play Cain’s Ballroom in October) touch down at No. 4.
The critically acclaimed new effort from country artist Kacey Musgraves rounds out the top half of the chart, while Leon Bridges — last week’s chart champ — drifts down to No. 6. Oklahoma’s own John Calvin Abney nabs No. 7 with his latest LP, Better Luck, while pianist/composer Rachel Grimes lands at No. 8. Holdovers Refused and Joy Williams round out this week’s top 10 best-sellers.
