Live from the OK: alt-J, The War on Drugs, Ratatat — we could keep going

alt-J

Hey now. April is always stacked with great shows, but it’s really starting off with a bang this week. You can see a festival headliner-type a night if you really want to, so let’s hop right into it so you can start making some tough decisions.

Cashmere Cat with Darku J and Burke
10 p.m. Friday
ACM@UCO Performance Lab | Oklahoma City

It’s not often that Oklahoma gets producers of this caliber to perform here. He’s appearing earlier that night at Chesapeake Arena, but if you want to skip the Ariana Grande portion, you can catch a more intimate gig from the Norwegian prodigy who has worked with Kanye West, Ludacris and more.

Rise & Empower featuring Josh Sallee, Chelsey Cope, Jabee & Bowlsey
8:30 p.m. Friday
City Pres | Oklahoma City

Raise money for a good cause (nonprofit project Jasper House Haiti) with four of the most crowd-pleasing locals you could ever assemble into a single bill.

Similarity with Weak Knees and The Daddyo’s
7 p.m. Friday
STASH | Norman

The Norman rock band is celebrating the cassette release of its self-titled album in very good company, joined by indie-rockers Weak Knees and The Daddyo’s, the latter of which we just gushed over last week.

Ratatat with Despot
7 p.m. Saturday
Brady Theater | Tulsa

Dance like nobody’s watching.

The War on Drugs with Hop Along
7 p.m. Sunday
Cain’s Ballroom | Tulsa

We gave away a pair of tickets to this show, so you know we wholeheartedly approve of Adam Granduciel and Co. They put out what might well have been the best album of 2014, and this is the band’s first ever stop in Oklahoma, so greet them warmly.

The Body with Idre
9 p.m. Monday
Soundpony | Tulsa

Spring allergies? Break up that chest congestion with the absolutely pulverizing doom metal of Providence product The Body, who will have Oklahoma City’s own — and the equally brutal — Idre in tow. The band just released its new album, You, Whom I Have Always Hated, with Thou earlier this year.

Dr. Dog with mewithoutyou
7 p.m. Monday
Cain’s Ballroom | Tulsa

Dr. Dog are no strangers to Oklahoma. They seem to make a point of stopping here at least once a year, and by no measure do Okies seem to be tiring of their off-kilter brand of psych folk. No one else seems to be, either; they released their first live album in January.

alt-J with Tycho
7 p.m. Wednesday
Chevy Events Center | Oklahoma City

“Breezeblocks” has over 75 million streams on Spotify. That probably explains why the British indie-rock band’s stop in Oklahoma City — their first — is already sold out. Those who have their tickets, make sure to get there early for the chilled-out bliss that are the cuts from Tycho’s excellent Awake and Dive.
