There’s a ridiculous amount of variety in this week’s concerts, ranging from top-notch Oklahoma talent to some eclectic national acts. Regardless of what you had planned for your post-Fourth of July weekend, you’d definitely be better off attending one or all of these shows.
Poolboy with Holy Hills
Friday, July 10
Guestroom Records | Oklahoma City
This month’s Second Friday Art Walk is stacked with great artists, beginning with the triumphant return of Poolboy. Check out this raucous garage-rock trio and snag some records while you’re at it.
The Daddyo’s with Hellen Kelter Skelter
Friday, July 10
Soundpony | Tulsa
These two Oklahoma bands have some of the most catchy songs you’ll ever hear around these parts. Relive seeing them both at April’s Norman Music Fest, but maybe drink less this time.
Cherry Death
Friday, July 10
Dope Chapel | Norman
Oklahoma is home to many lo-fi/noise-pop artists, but Cherry Death might be the best one out there right now. They came out strong with their 2014’s Brain into Blue Skies, and their latest releases don’t disappoint either.
Juan Wauters
Saturday, July 11
Opolis | Norman
If you’ve longed for an artist inspired equally by Dr. Dre and Uruguayan songwriter Jaime Roos, this is the show for you. The video below is some sort of tribute to Andy Kaufman. Hopefully Wauters’ live performances look like this as well.
Midtown Music featuring Prettyboy, The Copperheads, King Latifah, and Classic Nolan Ryan
Saturday, July 11
Power House | Oklahoma City
Adding to the streak of local artists to see this weekend, Midtown Music’s latest lineup features a wide range of acts. Depending on which band is playing, you can either dance with or punch the stranger next to you!
Rachel Brashear with Chris Lashley
Saturday, July 11
Henry Overholser Mansion | Oklahoma City
Fresh off her first full-length LP, Songs From a Cave (of which we wholeheartedly approve), Rachel Brashear is sure to burn down the house — er, mansion. (Sorry.)
Tallows featuring Future Death and Sex Snobs
Sunday, July 12
Blue Note | Oklahoma City
Their first show at the Blue Note in a hot minute, local heroes Tallows are back after frontman Josh Hogsett’s travels abroad. If that wasn’t enough, they’ll be supported by two excellent acts in Austin’s Future Death and OKC’s Sex Snobs.
Lord Huron
Tuesday, July 14
Cain’s Ballroom | Tulsa
Cain’s has been killing it all year long, and their fall bill is looking pretty sexy, too. Keeping with that trend, folky quartet Lord Huron brings on Tuesday.
Saint Motel
Tuesday, July 14
ACM@UCO Performance Lab | Oklahoma City
Known for their unique visuals at shows, California’s Saint Motel brings their spectacle to Bricktown.
