Welp, 2015 seems to be treating Skating Polly pretty well. Aside from prepping their new record — the duo’s fourth in five years — Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse announced that they will open for punk-rock icons Babes in Toyland on a slew of dates across the pond. Yeah, that Babes in Toyland.
Although Mayo and Bighorse are no strangers to touring stateside — they’ve done it with regularity in recent years — this marks the Oklahoma City ugly-pop band’s first European trek. And to play alongside one of their biggest influences in Babes in Toyland has to feel pretty good, especially since, until recently reuniting, the ’90s alt-rock forerunners hadn’t played a show in 14 years.
(Side note: I spotted Babes in Toyland drummer Lori Barbero taking in a Skating Polly gig at last year’s South by Southwest, so this pairing might have been brewing for some time now.)
Here are the dates:
- 05-24 Bristol, England – Trinity
- 05-25 Southampton, England – Engine Room
- 05-26 London, England – 02 Shepherds Bush Empire
- 05-27 Manchester, England – Gorilla
- 05-28 Glasgow, Scotland – Oran Mor
Update (Feb. 13): Skating Polly confirmed via Facebook that they will also open for New York noise-punk outfit Perfect Pussy in March. Those dates are as follows:
- 03-16 Washington, D.C. – Black Cat
- 03-18 Harrisonburg, Va. – Clementine
