Grunge godfathers The Melvins and Japanese noise-rock duo Melt-Banana have set respective stops at Opolis in Norman this spring. The Melvins will appear on June 12 while Melt-Banana (who toured with the former both in the U.S. and Japan in 1999) will make their stop a month earlier on May 9. The Melvins’ frontman King Buzzo was last seen in Oklahoma last March, while Melt-Banana hasn’t been through the Sooner State since 2007.
The Melvins — widely cited for inspiring the likes of Nirvana and Soundgarden — have been touring for over 30 years, releasing their latest studio album, Let It In, this past fall. Melt-Banana’s Yasuko Onuki and Ichirou Agata have been perfecting their unholy blend of hardcore, pop, experimental, punk and electronica since forming in 1992. Melt-Banana has released seven studio studio albums since, including their most recent LP, Fetch, in 2013.
Tickets for The Melvins’ show are on sale now, and Melt-Banana’s will be available Thursday, March 19.
